YKARUMBA WEIMARANER'S

About Us

Hi my name is Maxine,my husband Lee and our 2 children Cameron & Shalyn are originally from the Blue mountains in NSW.We moved to Moranbah QLD in April 1997.Also coming with us was our pet Alaskan Malamute 'Suak'.Coming from a 5 acre property with natural bush and mountain veiws Moranbah was quite a shock........flat,no views, red dust for soil and mountain scenery you had to drive to see. After loosing "Suak' after 10 years in Dec '02,it was a very sad time for us as most would know, the last thing on our minds was getting another addition.

2003

In June 2003 I knew I was ready for another family member to join myself and my family.I looked on the internet and came across Dogzonline. After spending hours upon hours reading up on breeds I let hubby in on my plan.Hubby not being an animal person at all mentioned the Weimaraner.I looked up and read everything I could find out about this breed.Happy with what I read and knowing we could handle a Weimaraner all I needed was to find a breeder in QLD,close to Moranbah would be great, as I was always interested in Dog Showing and thought I'd like to give it a go.

I was in luck a registered breeder only lived half an hour away,Sue (Weijarra Kennels),being an exhibitor herself was more than happy to teach me about showing........WHAT A BONUS!

I joined the CCC (Canine Control Council) right away.

September 2003 my boy Dakota came home he was into everything nothing was safe he would dig these little holes "ankle breakers" as hubby would call them, after a few months I cut my work hours from full time to part time.

2004

With the 2004 show season under way Sue and I became the best of friends as we still are today,we both travel together and enjoy our weekends away with our extended Wei family.

As the saying goes stopping at one isn't possible.

Dec 2004 Shiraz came to us.What a handful she was,she left Dakota for dead in the get into everything, nothings safe department, very headstrong letting you know if she wasn't getting the attention she deserved, really letting rip.Shiraz was quite the handful.

We finally found a property on acreage that we liked after spending every spare weekend looking, not to far for hubby to commute for work.

2005

Jan 2005 we moved onto our 30 acre property situated 54klms from Mackay in the beautiful Pioneer Valley and what a difference it made having the dogs run,no leads it was amazing.

Alas the start of Ykarumba was to begin.

Plans for another girl were underway.

October 2005 Dakota's sister Deva from a repeat mating came to us,very much like her big brother, loves her cuddles and kisses wanting to please all the time, and knowing her mum Kyrah, she is a spitting image.Sit down for a minute and Deva has to sit on your lap, even though now she is getting quite heavy, doesn't seem to bother her at all.........

2006

8th October 2006 Ykarumba's first litter between Aust Ch Weijarra Daman Has Style 'Dakota' & Aust Ch Kismaner Original Sinner 'Shiraz' arrived 2f,9m.From this mating we have kept 2 puppies,Ykarumba Amati Girl 'Bronte' & Ykarumba Adrenalin Rush 'Hunter',both will be campaigned throughout 2007 in conformation & obedience.

Puppies went to their new homes:'MOBY' Melbourne, 'TAJ' Rockhampton,'TSUBI' Cairns,'BELLA' Brisbane,'JAKE' Sydney,'TROY' Singapore,'AXLE' Adelaide,'LOUIE' Canberra,'CUJO' Mackay,'HUNTER' & 'BRONTE' retained by Ykarumba.

Unfortunately Hunter didn't like the show ring and we made the decision to find him a wonderful family home, which we did, he is now living in Cairns with a great family and another Wei Lucy both are very spoilt from the wonderful pics I am sent.

2007

Due to a mishap between Dakota & Shiraz,Ykarumba's 2nd litter is due 15th April 2007.This was not a planned mating.

Puppies arrived safe & well with mum in great shape and plenty of milk for the 10 new additions.5 boys & 5 girls.

Puppies went to their new homes:'JET' Katherine NT,'MURPHY' Gold Coast QLD,'SHIKOTA' Alpha QLD,'CHLOE' Moranbah QLD,'BARON' Brunei,'EMMA' Mackay QLD,'MADISON' Townsville QLD,'DIESEL & BAKER' Perth WA ,'GEORGE' Sydney NSW

May '07 Ykarumba welcome our first Italian Greyhound home 'Roxy' Berizza Hot Romance, born Valentine's day.Roxy will be shown by my  daughter Shalyn.

June '07 Ykarumba said our goodbye's to Deva....the mischevious one of the household, the one who demanded her cuddles and kisses, she will be missed...Due to her lack of pigment we de-sexed her and found her a wonderful home in Townsville. She now gets to sleep on the bed and has totally made her self at home.

Sept '07 Ykarumba welcome our first Long Hair Weimaraner 'Chelsea'.Many thanks go to Bill & Ingrid from Grausturm Kennels Tasmania for letting her become part of our family.Chelsea's first show will be Oct '07.

2008

Ykarumba have a busy year ahead with both Chelsea & Cruz hitting the show ring.Sue & I are hoping to get to the Brisbane Royal.

Dakota,Shiraz & Bronte will be shown sparingly throughout the year.

Jan '08 Our girl 'Roxy' had a terrible accident and resulted in her breaking both her front legs. She was operated on with external fixatures but by 5wks after her first operation started to go backwards.I then chose to send her to a specialist and she is currently staying with Dr Richard-Eaton Wells at the QLD Veterinary Specialist Clinic In Chermside Brisbane. Roxy has one front leg plated at the moment and we are waiting to see if the other leg needs further surgery.

We are missing her dearly and can't wait to have her home safe and well.

Pic above shows Roxy with the external fixatures

Roxy arrives home after 2wks staying in Brisbane under the excellent care of Dr Richard Eaton Wells and staff at the Chermside Veterinary Clinic.Words cannot express how appreciative we are of having our girl walking on all 4 legs again, many thanks.

Finally on May 2nd Roxy had her fixature removed after approx 13wks and is looking at a full recovery. We now have a hard time ahead to keep her quiet and are only allowed lead walks...the poor girl is wanting to scale the walls and is under constant watch.

I would also like to say thank's to our local Veterinary clinic "Valley Vet Surgery at Walkerston QLD for their excellent care of Roxy throughout this ordeal. They certainly made a terrible incident more bearable with their help, understanding and true committment to making her make a full recovery, thanks girls :)

Feb'08 Ykarumba now are having our Wei's eye certified by an AVA ANKC Veterinary Opthamologist

April '08 We welcome a new long Hair 'Holly' from Kismaner Kennel to our home. She is soo gorgeous and always up to no good......as all puppies are :) I'm forever keeping her from eating the palm seeds. She will be starting her show career May/June.

May '08 Sadly we have Chelsea our first LH to join Ykarumba going to her new forever home.Unfortunately her eye test wasn't a 'clear' result, having MRD - MultiFocal Retinal Dysplasia & her bite going level. She was desexed and is now living in Brisbane QLD.

Aug '08 We welcome from Bromhund 2 new additions - Luke a Longhair & his litter sister Cleo a shortcoat into our homes both pups are co-owned with my best friend Sue Turner from Weijarra.Luke will be staying here with us at Ykarumba and Cleo will be living at Sue's.

Sept '08 Roxy hits the show ring after her terrible start to the year and a long recovery from breaking both her front legs in January....it was good to hear people asking where I got my new IG from ...they didn't realise this was the same girl.

is awarded by the Weimaraner Club of QLD inc the

"2008 Country Show Weimaraner Longhair of the Year" Trophy

WHAT A START TO THE NEW YEAR!!!

2009

Will be another busy year for us with campaigning our younger additions.Brisbane Royal is on the agenda with both Wei's & Italian Greyhounds.Let's see what happens.....always something comes up..girls in season, weddings, you name it,it happens :)

April '09 We welcome 'LEVI' another IG to our family, a half brother to our girl Roxy.Who could resist another...

June'09 Sadly Holly has been returned to her breeder. She took a dislike to Bronte and life became very hard between the two constantly fighting. She is a beautiful natured girl loves attending shows, loves the kids just hated Bronte and sadly here we run the dogs together and they all have to get along, otherwise life becomes more of a chore with seperating them which brings the noise also.

July '09 Looking finally to having the ability to get one of our wei's at least to a speciality show....'Luke' to whom I own in co ownership with my best friend Sue of Weijarra Kennel's.We are planning to have Luke fly down and attend the upcoming Weimaraner Club of QLD inc show under the USA judge Mrs.G.Young.

Wei spec critique on 'Luke' Bromhund Xtra Time

Junior Dog
1. Bromhund Xtra Time Best Junior Parker/Turner
A nice dog, good movement, good reach and drive, nice forechest, good topline, nice coat. Shoulders
could be a little smoother but overall has the nice breed type

CHALLENGE DOG: BROMHUND XTRA TIME Parker/Turner
Challenge Winner today for the Longhair is No. 62. He has a nice correct Weimaraner outline, good
forechest, nice topline, good length of back and rib

July 09 We welcome 'MOE' an ex racing Greyhound to our home.Sadly with the closure of the Cairns & Mackay Greyhound Racing Clubs at the end of the month, alot of greyhounds won't be so lucky to find new homes. We ourselves are happy with giving Moe a home.I fell in love with this girl over a year ago and tried hard to get her but as she was a good racer wasn't ready for retirement.Moe done extremely well for her owners on the racetrack and hopefully will do them proud in the show ring.

Aug '09 Ykarumba Alive N Kick N 'Taj' gains his Jumping Dog Title from 3 trials. We are very pleased with his mum's dedication and both their efforts in obtaining this, well done.

Sept '09 What a start to the month.....Our IG Levi breaks his front leg...The external fixatures our vet had put on Roxy and not knowing any better ourselves on how much of an ordeal it was going to be for her and her recovery we decided Levi will be operated on at the Qld Vet Specialist Clinic in Brisbane. He had his his leg plated, was home a week later and was walking as normal.Only for some swelling you would not know he had broken it.The operation has left no scarring. We are very appreciative of the staff at the Chermside Clinic.

My advice to anyone looking at an IG,take into account this breed is well known for breaking legs. The cost we have endured on getting Roxy & Levi operated on has exceeded $10,000.Roxy had serious complications from her first operation with the external fixatures and I wouldn't recommend having external fixatures put on an IG,this was also stated by the specialist.Roxy then had to go to Brisbane for specialist care and a second operation which was having her leg plated at a cost of over $3,000 a leg, something everyone looking into this breed should be made aware of.Both Roxy & Levi where on their own when they resulted in having broken leg/s so whether they jumped off the furniture or where running amuck and slammed into the furniture or wall is anyone's guess.

However some legs can have a cast placed Roxy's & Levi's breaks where too severe.

Alot of comments from the expense we have outlayed has been quite an eye opener for me both from show and pet people.I am amazed at how many people have said they would have put them down and bought another one.To me my dogs are my family and unless their quality of life is going to be compromised the decision of having to put them down never comes too mind.

Sept '09 We say farewell to Cruz our easy going, big bear LH wei, sadly Cruz had very loose eyelids and Sue & I didn't want to chance it coming through if we used him at stud.Cruz was desexed and is now living in Mt Isa.

Nov '09 will see Shiraz being returned to her breeder Kathleen and having a litter under the "KISMANER" prefix.

Sue is using Dakota at stud over her two girls Gabby & Zoe.We are looking forward to see these puppies :)

Dec '09 sadly Gabby has only one pup and it is stillborn

2010

Jan'10 Zoe has her first litter by our boy Dakota...the new arrivals are doing well, 6 boys and 1 girl

Feb'10 Shiraz has a litter under the 'Kismaner' prefix in Brisbane, she is a proud mum of 4 boys and 1 girl.....missing her heaps and can't wait to have her home

Roxy 'Berizza Hot Romance' our 1st Italian Greyhound girl has an Eye Test result of Advanced PRA - Progressive Retinal Atrophy at 3 years of age, sadly she will be totally blind within 2 years,as there is no cure for PRA.
